Pregnancy Acupuncture in Squamish, BC
Drug-free acupuncture support through every stage of pregnancy — morning sickness, pain, breech turning, labour preparation, and beyond.
Acupuncture Through Pregnancy
Mina Kavia draws on a solid foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine and combines it with modern perinatal research to provide the best complementary care possible during the journey into motherhood. Pregnancy acupuncture offers drug-free treatment for morning sickness, musculoskeletal pain, and a range of pregnancy-related conditions — and supports the body's natural preparation for birth.
Sessions are gentle and adapted for each stage of pregnancy. Mina has worked with pregnant patients throughout the first, second, and third trimesters, and in the postpartum period.
Morning Sickness and Nausea
Nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy are driven by hormonal changes, fatigue, and stress. Acupuncture — particularly the point Pericardium 6 — is one of the most well-researched natural interventions for pregnancy-related nausea, with clinical evidence showing meaningful reductions in both severity and frequency. Treatment typically begins in the first trimester and may be combined with dietary guidance.
Musculoskeletal Pain During Pregnancy
The body's rapid structural changes during pregnancy — shifting centre of gravity, ligament laxity from relaxin, and postural adaptation — commonly produce back pain, pelvic girdle pain, rib pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Research supports acupuncture specifically for pubic symphysis and sacroiliac dysfunction during pregnancy. Mina's physiotherapy background means she can also provide safe manual therapy and exercise guidance where appropriate.
Breech and Posterior Presentation
Moxibustion — a warming technique using the herb mugwort applied to the acupuncture point Bladder 67 on the little toe — is the most studied natural method for encouraging babies in breech or posterior position to turn. It is most effective from 33 weeks onward and has a strong safety record. Mina guides patients through in-clinic sessions and home treatment protocols.
Labour Preparation and Induction
Weekly acupuncture in the final 4–6 weeks of pregnancy helps prepare the pelvis and cervix for birth — relaxing ligaments, softening the cervix, and optimising baby's position. Clinical evidence suggests this reduces active labour duration and lowers rates of medical induction and Caesarean section.
When medical induction is approaching or desired, acupuncture offers a gentle, drug-free alternative or complement. Acupressure points for labour support can also be taught to a partner for use during birth.
Labour Pain and Postpartum Care
Acupuncture and acupressure during labour provide meaningful drug-free pain management and help maintain a parasympathetic state — calmer nervous system, better labour progression. Postpartum, acupuncture supports recovery, hormonal rebalancing, milk supply, and mood.
